Message From Executive Manager
June 25, 2011
Dear Xokolatl Café community members,
Please note that as of today, June 25, 2011, Xokolatl Café will be closed for business at its current location. On behalf of Xokolatl Café, Semillas, Maria Villamil and our whole school community, I sincerely thank all of our customers and patrons for their support and xocoliscious vibe. The Council of Trustees of Semillas Sociedad Civil, the nonprofit corporate owner of Xokolatl Café, LLC, has supported an internal proposal to reprioritize our organizational resources on the development and possible creation of a student focused kitchen program to better meet the school breakfast and lunch needs of our schools. Xokolatl already doubled as our school cafeteria kitchen, and Semillas will now focus on developing the cafe space for school functions, parents and students exclusively. However, in the meantime, Xokolatl Café will be closed to the general public.
As we develop our plans to implement our new school cafeteria program and school community meeting space, we will continue to explore fundraising opportunities through Xokolatl Café for Semillas Community Schools and our Indigenous relations elsewhere. Our students and organizers will continue to seek opportunities for Xokolatl Café to meet its mission as a social enterprise promoting Indigenous heirloom chocolate and a healthy gathering space for our community. We would welcome the opportunity to cater to special events or other opportunities to create self-reliance for Semillas Sociedad Civil and our communities. Tlatzocamate!
Sincerely,
Marcos Aguilar,
Executive Manager
